This hat, a close cousin of the beret, is the national hat of Tunisia. In June 2018, Tunisian fans honored Tunisia by cheering on their national team participating in the FIFA World Cup and by promoting Tunisian culture, highlighted by the chechia, a red wool hat, the color of the national flag! The manufacturing of the chechia was considered a refined art following strict traditional principles. Traditionally, the artisanal Tunisian chechia was made from combed wool, then knitted by the women who crafted the "kabbous" caps. Generally, the wool spinning takes place in Djerba or Gafsa, then the knitting is relegated to the expert Kabbasat of Ariana, the fulling continues in the waters of the Medjerda at El Batan, the carding is performed in El Alia where the thistles originate, followed by the dyeing which is impregnated in Zaghouan. The finishing and shaping are finally completed in Tunis. At this frantic pace of production, the Chechia surely traveled much more than the humans who made it...

Caring for a 100% wool Tunisian chechia:

1. Careful hand washing: Avoid machine washing the wool chechia, as this could cause shrinking or deformation. Prefer hand washing with lukewarm water and a specific mild detergent like the one from the brand monsapo for wool. Wash gently by pressing lightly to avoid stretching it.
2. Flat drying: Do not wring the chechia to remove excess water. Lay it flat on an absorbent towel and let it air dry naturally. Avoid direct sunlight, as this could alter the color of the wool.
3. Gentle brushing: Use a soft-bristled brush to remove lint and restore softness to the wool chechia. Brush gently in the direction of the fibers to avoid any damage.

Styling a wool chechia:

1. Adjust the shape: After washing, adjust the shape of the wool chechia by handling it gently. Ensure the shape is regular and fits your head well. This will help maintain a neat appearance.
2. Add accessories: Personalize your wool chechia by adding accessories, such as a brooch, ribbon, or a discreet badge. This can bring a personal and stylish touch to your outfit.
3. Layer with other pieces: Combine your wool chechia with other clothing and accessories to create interesting layers. For example, wear it under a denim jacket or with a matching scarf for an original and trendy look.
