The burnous, a wool coat, hooded and sleeveless, worn by Berber men, Imazighan, who came from Africa at the beginning of the 19th century, greatly inspires fashion designers. From 1831, ladies adopted this traditional clothing. Originally made from white camel hair fabric, with a gathered hood trimmed with fringes or tassels, the burnous is made from cashmere, taffeta or wool.
